Same Code, Different County
Homeowners here are sometimes surprised to learn that Broward County is also a High Velocity Hurricane Zone. The Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance requirement and the impact-rating standard apply in Hallandale Beach exactly as they do in North Miami. Crossing the county line changes your permitting office, not your code.
Golden Isles is where we do most of our residential work in the city: single-family homes on the finger islands, many on the water, with the salt corrosion profile that comes with it. Springs, cables and roller bearings on these homes have a materially shorter life than equivalent hardware two miles inland, and we spec hardware accordingly.
West of US-1 the housing is a mix of single-family and low-rise, generally 1960s through 1980s, where the work is ordinary residential repair: springs, openers, rollers and track alignment. The oceanfront strip is predominantly high-rise, so the work there is commercial, parking structure gates and rolling doors rather than residential doors.
Does Broward Have the Same Hurricane Door Requirements as Miami-Dade?
Yes. Broward is also a designated High Velocity Hurricane Zone. Doors installed in Hallandale Beach must carry a Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance and be impact rated, same as in Miami-Dade.
Do You Charge Extra to Cross Into Broward?
No. Hallandale Beach is fifteen minutes from our shop. It is a normal service area for us, at normal rates.
